At Wesland Boerdery we believe that a successful farm is one that lifts up the people and the community around it. Our social responsibility efforts are built on three pillars: caring for our workers and their families, investing in the next generation, and protecting the natural environment we farm in.
We are proud holders of the SIZA Platinum rating — the highest possible award under the Sustainability Initiative of South Africa — confirming our commitment to ethical labour practices, worker welfare, and environmental stewardship across all our farming operations.
Our farm is home to a resident workforce and their families. We take responsibility for their wellbeing seriously — providing safe working conditions, fair wages, and support structures that go well beyond the requirements of the law.
One of our proudest investments is the Educare Centre. Founded in 2015 in Saron to give local children a safe and educational start, the centre relocated to Wesland Farm in September 2020. Since then it has grown from 4 staff and 12 children to 12 staff members caring for around 100 children, serving both our farm workers’ families and the wider Saron community.
We understand that when parents can work with peace of mind knowing their young children are safe, well cared for, and learning in a nurturing environment close by, the entire family thrives. The center follows the registered Leef en Leer learning program, built around the ELDAS early-development areas, and provides three wholesome meals a day. It offers a safe, stimulating space for the youngest members of our farming community during their most formative years, preparing them to thrive when they start school.
Wesland Boerdery is situated in the Twenty-four Rivers valley, one of the most ecologically significant landscapes in the Western Cape, adjacent to the Groot Winterhoek Wilderness Area and the Cape Floral Region World Heritage Site.
We farm with a deep respect for this natural heritage. Our SIZA Platinum environmental audit — awarded following an independent audit by SGS South Africa on 28 January 2025 — is the highest achievable rating and reflects our commitment to minimizing our environmental footprint, protecting natural resources, and farming in a way that preserves this landscape for future generations.
We use drip irrigation throughout our vineyards for optimal water efficiency, practice responsible pesticide management within our Global G.A.P.-certified programme, and maintain buffer areas to protect the indigenous fynbos and waterways that surround our farm.
Our people are the backbone of Wesland Boerdery. We are committed to providing a safe, fair, and dignified working environment for every person on our farm.
We comply fully with South African labour law and go beyond compliance in many areas — providing housing, access to healthcare referrals, and a supportive community environment for our permanent and seasonal workforce. Worker safety is a non-negotiable priority across all our farming and packing operations.
Our SIZA Platinum certification independently verifies our ethical labour practices and confirms that we meet — and in many cases exceed — the social standards expected by our international retail and wholesale partners. We believe that every person on our farm deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, and this principle guides every decision we make as an employer.
